If you are teaching an on-campus course and have not used a proctoring vendor previously, please visit For Faculty: Proctored Exams to help you get started.
We see the instructor as an active partner in the success of proctored exams for Global Campus courses.
There are two types of proctoring:
- virtual proctoring, online exams that are supervised by Proctorio, WSU’s trusted third-party virtual proctoring service
- on-site proctoring, exams that are either paper or online, supervised by an on-site proctor
For a quick comparison on the types of proctoring, please refer to the table below.
|Virtual Proctoring Service||On-Site Proctor|
|Approved Proctors||Proctorio||Many professionals, including certified librarians, testing center staff and others, are eligible to proctor exams. When a student requests their proctor, Global Campus will verify that the proctor meets the eligibility requirements.|
|Exam format||Online exams||Paper exams or online exams|
|Proctor fee per exam||For the summer 2020 term, there is no cost for virtual proctoring in Global Campus courses.||Fees vary by proctor.|
|Computer||Students use their own computer, which must be equipped with a working webcam, speakers, and microphone.||Students use the proctor's computer.|
|Where students take their exam||A home location of their choice. Note: Proctorio requires a private location.||The proctor's place of business.|
|When to schedule exams||Proctorio offers on-demand test taking so scheduling is not needed||Students should contact their preferred on-site proctor to schedule their exam. Students are also required to request their proctor through MyWSU. We recommend that students submit their request in MyWSU at least two weeks in advance.|
