Virtual Proctoring

Note: ProctorU will undergo scheduled maintenance throughout the year. Please plan accordingly for the proctored exams in your course. Review the planned maintenance schedule.

Virtual Proctoring

Virtual proctored exams for WSU Global Campus courses are proctored by ProctorU.

  • Students will pay $6 per ProctorU session for exams hosted in Canvas. There are a small number of exams hosted in non-Canvas platforms, and the fee for those will be $11 per ProctorU session.
  • Instructors should not provide students with the exam password. The ProctorU Guardian Browser will insert the password automatically for the student after the student has passed the pre-exam check.
  • Students can take an exam with ProctorU 24/7, during the exam availability as indicated in the course schedule.
  • ProctorU offers on-demand test taking so scheduling in advance is not needed.
    • Note: There are a small number of Global Campus courses which use a third party platform, where scheduling at least 72 hours in advance is required. GCPS staff will reach out to instructors and students in those courses with specific information about exam set up and scheduling.
  • Students are required to use the Guardian Browser.
  • Live chat is available for students who need assistance.
  • After each exam session students will be directed to a ProctorU feedback survey which assists the company in monitoring and improving their performance. Students are not required to complete the survey.
  • For additional details on how students take their exams with ProctorU, visit Preparing for your ProctorU Session.

Zoom may not be used as a proctoring solution in Global Campus courses because Zoom may not provide the necessary security for proctored exams.

Global Campus strongly encourages faculty to utilize ProctorU, WSU’s trusted virtual proctoring service. ProctorU has been vetted for security, and is designed to uphold academic integrity and ensure a consistent testing experience for all students.

Do You Want to Use ProctorU for Virtual Proctored Exams?

For instructors teaching Global Campus courses:

  • Request your virtual proctored exams through the course verification process.
  • Global Campus staff will work with you for the exam set up.

Instructors: Get Started with ProctorU

If you are a new instructor to ProctorU, Global Campus staff will create a ProctorU account on your behalf.

Log in to your account by selecting the Meazure Learning (ProctorU) link in your course navigation menu. Note: Accessing ProctorU through the link in your course navigation menu will display the exams associated with that Canvas course.

Important: Update your account information as needed, but be sure that your WSU email is listed as your email address. If this is your first time logging in to ProctorU, be sure to update your password.

Accessing ProctorU through the link in your course navigation menu will display the exams associated with that course.

Confirm that your proctored exams are listed within the Proctored Exams tab.

  • For exams hosted in Canvas, you must access your exams through the ProctorU link in your course navigation menu.
  • For exams hosted in non-Canvas platforms, you must navigate directly to ProctorU’s website to view the exams associated with your course.

Changes to exam settings, including individual student exceptions, must be submitted to gcps@wsu.edu for implementation in the ProctorU system.

If you do not see your exams listed in the ProctorU link, email gcps@wsu.edu for assistance.

Passwords are added to ProctorU exams in order to maintain academic integrity and ensure that the student is connecting with ProctorU to complete their exam.

We ask that instructors:

  • Do not remove exam passwords.
  • Do not share exam passwords with students.

The ProctorU Guardian Browser will insert the password automatically for the student after the student has passed the pre-exam check.

Reviewing a Test-Taker’s Session

ProctorU provides an Incident Report when there is a potential issue for the instructor to review. An incident might not require any action. Review the Faculty Responsibilities to understand your responsibilities.

Additional information can be found in the ProctorU Support article, How to Review an Incident Report.
