Junior Writing Portfolio Timed Essay

What is the Junior Writing Portfolio Timed Essay?

  • The Writing Portfolio Timed Essay is one of the requirements for the Junior Writing Portfolio. The exam consists of two impromptu essays written during a single, supervised two-hour session. One essay will be argumentative, and the other will be a self-evaluation.
  • The administration fee for this exam is charged to students’ accounts and is separate from the online proctoring fee that students pay when scheduling their proctor session.
  • Note: Students on the Everett, Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver campuses should sign up for a timed writing session on their home campus. Visit Writing Assessment Contacts.

How to I take the Junior Writing Portfolio Timed Essay?

  • For the online exam, you’ll need to register for the exam. Visit Online Exam Option to access the online exam registration form. After completing the form, you’ll receive a registration confirmation email with information about next steps.

Writing Placement Exam

What is the Writing Placement Exam?

  • The Writing Placement Exam consists of two impromptu essays during a single, supervised two-hour session that address similar tasks that students will encounter in English courses. The exam is required for all students who want to enroll in ENGLISH 100, 101, 104, or 105.
  • The administration fee for this exam is charged to students’ accounts and is separate from the online proctoring fee that students pay when scheduling their proctor session.
