A student asked me to be a proctor. How do I know that I’m qualified?
WSU requires that proctors be in a specific type of official position at their place of business. Please review the Approved Proctor Criteria.
How will I receive the student’s exam?
Students can choose a delivery method to send their exam to their on-site proctor: standard mail, email, or FedEx.
The exam I’m proctoring is online. What do I need to do to have the computer ready for the student?
Please review the Online Proctored Exam Computer Setup page that was included with the exam material, or visit Tech Support.
How do I know what materials the student can use during the exam?
The letter you receive with the exam materials will indicate what is or is not allowed on an exam. Those instructions come from the instructor.
If the student is taking the exam online, do I need to watch their screen?
Yes, we ask that you monitor the screen for the duration of the exam. Students are not allowed to open any programs or websites unless indicated in the exam notes.
How do I return the completed exam?
Options for returning completed exams to GCPS are located on the proctor letter that is included with the exam. If the proctor has agreed to expedite return delivery (e.g. FedEx), the proctor must personally handle return of the exam, and the student is expected to provide shipping materials and cover all return delivery costs.
Exams can be returned in one of the following methods:
- In a pre-paid addressed envelope provided either by GCPS or the student.
- Email a scanned copy of the exam to GCPS, then also mail the original materials to GCPS in a pre-paid addressed envelope provided either by GCPS or the student.
- Email a scanned copy of the exam to GCPS, then wait for confirmation from GCPS before proceeding.
What do I do if I suspect cheating or other suspicious activity during the exam?
Allow the student to complete the exam, but remove any materials you feel they are using to cheat. Please document in detail what you saw, and when possible, have someone else verify the incident. After the exam, please contact GCPS at 509-335-0827 or email@example.com to explain the incident. Your information will be communicated to the instructor, who can determine what action is needed.
